“When you listen to your wife and your blood pressure, you’ve got to change some things. I’m walking and doing some medical things.”
When performing a gastric surgery, the surgeon begins by dividing the procedure into two stages. The first stage is to reduce the size of the stomach. The second stage was carried out one year after the patient lost weight. The second stage of this procedure includes going through several intestines to reduce the absorption of calories. Crawford said he first had to lose his own weight to qualify even for this procedure.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric sleeve surgery, also known as sleeve gastrectomy, has become a popular option for patients seeking excellent weight loss in direct procedures that do not require maintenance and long-term complications of a lap band.
Very obese individuals (people with a body mass index greater than 45) are at increased risk during surgery. And the longer the anesthesia time, the greater the risk. Gastric bypass surgery can last more than 2 hours. Duodenal transition surgery often takes more than 4 hours. It is a long time to be under anesthesia.
Then the surgeon begins to divide the procedure into two stages. The first stage is to reduce the size of the stomach. The second stage will take place one year after the patient loses weight. The second stage of this procedure includes going through several intestines to reduce the absorption of calories.
Then, the surgeon begins coding the first part of the procedure as the first half of the duodenal switch. When patients return a year later, they have lost a lot of weight, so a second procedure is not needed.
Studies like this are emerging (Randomized clinical trial of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass versus laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for the management of patients with BMI < 50 kg/m2). The low rates of complications and weight loss are as good, if not better, than gastric bypass. And since surgery takes less time and is not too complicated to do, the surgeon likes it.
Patients also like this procedure. After surgery and often for months after the procedure, patients realize that they are not hungry. Some patients should remember to eat. Immediately patients ask their doctors about gastric sleeve surgery.
Later, research shows that hunger produced by the hormone ghrelin is significantly reduced in gastric sleeve patients. It is believed that the stomach area released during gastric sleeve surgery produces a large amount of the hormone ghrelin. While patients with gastric bypass experience less hunger, it seems clearer in gastric sleeve patients.
Potential Benefits For Patients
Gastric arm surgery has the following benefits:
- It can reduce hunger.
- Ghrelin, the inhibitory hormone, is reduced by removing part of the stomach, which is largely responsible for its production.
- The reduction of hunger occurs in most patients, but not in all.
- Shorter operating time compared to gastric bypass.
- Do not redirect the intestine.
- There is no elimination syndrome.
- Although dumping syndrome can be a tool to strengthen good eating habits, it is very unpleasant.
- The pylorus remains intact and the sugar has time to digest because the intestines remain intact.
- No adjustments are needed. The lap band requires regular adjustments (doctor visits).
- There is no foreign body left in the body. The lap band leaves silicone tape around the upper part of your stomach.
- Weight loss occurs for 18 months.
- The loss of gastric weight is very fast. Most of the weight loss occurs in the first year.
- Lap Band gradually and requires great changes in lifestyle to be successful. Most of the weight loss occurs for 3 years.
Crawford Make Fitness Fun
This is what Lavell did. Many of us complain because we are thinking of exercising, but sports do not have to be obstacles. Why not season by adding friends (you can even hold friendship competitions), sign up for group classes or play sports? Also, stir! Nobody wants to do the same exercise routine every day. If you have a treadmill, try changing it by walking around your neighborhood on a nice day. Your training is what you do, so make it fun!
In a recent interview with Sway In the Morning, Lavell explained why and how he lost about 65 pounds.
“For all the big people, I’ll still be real, I use an arm in my stomach,” Crawford said. “I am 47 years old and a beautiful 5-year-old son that I want to meet, I have a beautiful wife, I want to be here, I do not want to leave him hanging.”
“I’ve got up sugar and I have lost 40. The problem is that I have diabetes and my legs swell from time to time, and my blood pressure is a bit high, so I do not want anything where one day you walk down the street eating a hot dog and you fall dead and someone says: ‘Look, I know that will happen’. ”
“I do not want to leave her with ‘woman, hell with you’ or ‘woman, I’m done with you’ or I do not want to leave her raising my children alone, knowing what I mean,” Crawford explained.
“In the same retrospective, if you can do something for your health, do it. I work, I take Brazilian jujitsu. But sometimes, men, as we grow older, it is difficult to keep your body healthy. My schedule is very drastic and many times I am on the road. If you do not take care of yourself, but now is the time. I want to see 80 years, so I have to do something to see at least 80“.
After losing 130 pounds, Crawford said he was hit with a barrage of questions.
“People ask me ‘do you feel better, are you happy, do you think you’ll come back, will you still be funny?” Crawford said. “If you’re fat, you’re fat, if you’re thin, you’re thin, in the shape of people who die every day, they fall into the gym after eating a salad of kale.”
When it came to losing weight, Crawford, 48, said he had no plans to abandon the trip that had taken him so far.
“People will go to buy hamburgers instead of salads, knowing that they want to follow a diet, and you are constantly tempted,” he said. “The only time you see a diet announcement is late at night after eating a lover of extra-large meat, passion pushes everything and says ‘I want it’ and I want it (healthy).”
“It takes me a lifetime to get here, I’m still going through it,” Crawford said. “I have not finished yet.”
Recognize that there are opponents.
“I’ll tell the people that I’m going to change, they’ll say ‘what if it’s wrong’ and I’ll ask myself, what if I die (during the surgery), well, if I die, I do not have to worry about that. thing, “he said.
Then, Lavell has some funny words for all those who try to be healthy: “Take care of yourself, people … and keep your booty holes, LOL!“
